Amazing K Primary School Curriculum
In 2013 we began the process of developing our Primary School Curriculum (an adapted CAPS Curriculum). One that would be suitable for learners diagnosed with a Pervasive Development Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder and other related Developmental Delays/Disorders.
The broad aim was to develop a curriculum that would suit the individual needs by taking the various barriers or challenges of each learner into consideration. The vision of Amazing K is that all learners should be able to learn at a pace they are able to cope with, whilst being exposed to different and higher skills levels and knowledge.
The Amazing K Curriculum is divided into these sections:
- Language, Literacy and Alternative Communication Techniques such as Sign language, PECS and AAC Communication
- Creativity, Art & Music
- General knowledge and Skills
- Perceptive Development
- Cognitive Development
- Physical Development & Integration
- Social and Emotional Development
Amazing K is a foundation phase primary school only. Children that are able to pass the Grade 3 CAPS curriculum at Amazing K is referred to a mainstream or remedial school. Learners that are not able to pass the CAPS Grade 3 curriculum will stay at Amazing K and he/she is taught further academic subjects as well as life skills, communication and self help skills.
