Development screening of a person with a suspected Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Early Childhood Development centres are often the first to notice a delay in a child’s development.  Parents will also see unusual behaviours but when they are not familiar with Early Childhood Development Milestones the delays are often ignored until school going age.

M-CHAT-R which stands for: “Modified Checklist of Autism Spectrum Disorder in Toddlers” is a checklist often used to establish the likelihood of an ASD.

M-CHAT-R is basically a comprehensive list of informative questions about your child.  The answers given by yourself will indicate whether your child should be further evaluated by a specialist medical professional such as a Child Psychologist, Child Neurologist or Developmental Paediatrician.

The M-CHAT-R form can be downloaded here for free and also from a  variety of sites on the World Wide Web and if you google M-CHAT form for Autism Screening it is easy to find.

We would like to encourage parents to trust their gut and to also listen to the ECD centres and school when they want to refer a child for Therapy because schools understand and specialise in Early Childhood Development and only wants what is best for your child.
