Building blocks for your Autistic Child’s future

Autism affects every child in unique ways – each child with Autism has different educational and therapy needs. At our Autism school in Johannesburg we help our children increase their independence by using a step-by-step approach.

At the Amazing K Autism School it all starts with Communication

Most children on the Autism Spectrum struggle with spoken language. Strengthening their communication is a critical step towards increasing their independence.  Many Autists may never speak fluently therefore our Communication Strategies also include Literacy and Visual Communication methods.

Many children with language disorders have a history of motor planning difficulties.  We know that motor development does not cause language to emerge but we also know that motor and language skills develop parallel.

Sensory Processing difficulties (SPD) may not be a learning disability.  But they can make it very hard for children to succeed at school.  There is no medication to treat sensory processing issues so giving each student coping and self-regulation techniques is essential.

More steps in our learning process include:

  • Children on the Autism Spectrum are prone to experiencing anxiety. Anxiety Disorders often stem from a child’s in-ability to communicate, being unable to predict outcomes or understand social interaction is also a huge contributing factor.  Anxiety cannot be ignored!
  • Transitions matter because without these skills a child does not know how to end an activity or start a new one. This can also cause a child to be distressed when moving from one space into another.

Above all our step by step approach at Amazing K allows the child that does not speak to learn, the child that can’t write to read and the child that is nothing more than just a little different the opportunity to be whatever he or she wants to be!
