In-School Speech Therapist

Are you passionate about helping children with autism communicate more successfully?

 

Amazing K welcomes applications from experienced speech therapists who are interested in working in a school-based autism and early intervention environment.

 

This role focuses on supporting children with varying levels of autism, communication delays and AAC needs, while working closely with educators and families.

Requirements may include:

  • HPCSA registration
  • 3-5 years’ experience with children with autism in schools or practices
  • Fluent in English
  • Strong knowledge of autism spectrum disorder
  • Good administrative and customer communication skills
  • Makaton, PECS and GOTALK experience preferred
  • Proficiency in writing reports and initiating systems

Teacher / Teacher Assistant Roles

At Amazing K, you’ll have the opportunity to work with children who have social communication delays, speech delays, behaviour challenges, ADHD, sensory processing disorders and/or autism.

 

These roles are suited to committed individuals who are patient, practical, reliable and willing to learn.

Team members provide direct support to children, assist with curriculum implementation, prepare learning activities, support communication development, help children participate in classroom routines and create a safe, nurturing learning environment.

 

This work may include supporting children with communication, behaviour, sensory regulation, social interaction, fine motor tasks, playground participation and structured group learning.

 

Teacher assistant roles may be full-day or half-day, depending on the vacancy and campus requirements.

Psychology Graduates & Students

Do you want to gain rewarding, hands-on experience that aligns with your studies?

 

Amazing K may offer morning-only vacancies or training-based contracts for dynamic undergraduate students or graduates who want practical exposure to autism education and early intervention.

 

This experience can help broaden your understanding of child development, autism, communication support, behaviour, sensory needs and inclusive classroom practice.

Working Hours

School-based roles may be full-day or half-day.

Working hours depend on the position, campus and programme needs.

Full-Day Positions

Typical working hours: 7:30am to 4:30pm.

Half-Day Positions

Typical working hours: 7:30am to 1:30pm.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support and assistance to children with autism spectrum disorder.
  • Work closely with children aged 2 to 8 years in a classroom setting.
  • Assist the teaching team in implementing the curriculum.
  • Prepare creative and engaging lessons for children to complete during class time.
  • Provide support on the playground and promote social interaction.
  • Support children with behaviour challenges in collaboration with the teaching team.
  • Collaborate with speech therapists to support speech and language development.
  • Learn and implement basic sign language and PECS where appropriate.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.

What To Expect After You Have Sent Your Information

  • Successful candidates may be invited to a morning autism theoretical workshop at our centre in Sharonlea, Randburg.
  • After the workshop, candidates may be required to complete a written assessment.
  • The next stage may involve a practical classroom session with a senior member of the team.
  • Once all screening stages have been completed successfully, candidates may be invited to a formal interview with the owner of Amazing K.
  • If successful, a contract of employment may be offered.
