Autism Classroom Assistant / Autism Support Specialist positions in Northwold and Sharonlea, Randburg.

Amazing K is looking for Psychology Graduates and suitable junior candidates to join our autism teaching and classroom support teams.

 

These roles are based at our Northwold and Sharonlea centres and are suited to candidates who live in or near the Randburg area. Due to the junior nature of the position and travel costs, only candidates who live near Randburg / the North of Johannesburg will be considered.

 

Successful candidates will support children with autism and related developmental needs in a structured classroom environment, working closely with teachers, therapists and other Amazing K team members.

Position Overview

Psychology Graduate / Autism Teaching Role

Location: Northwold & Sharonlea, Randburg

Role: Autism Classroom Assistant / Autism Support Specialist / Behaviour Therapist

Salary: Negotiable, based on experience and qualifications, up to R8 000 per month

Area requirement: Candidates must live in or near Randburg / North Johannesburg

Experience: Previous experience working with children required

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the teacher in delivering personalised instruction and activities tailored to meet each student’s needs.
  • Help implement behaviour management plans using positive reinforcement, redirection and support during challenging behaviours.
  • Help maintain a structured, calm and supportive learning environment.
  • Support students in using communication aids such as PECS, sign language or AAC devices.
  • Assist with setting up the classroom environment, organising materials and preparing learning centres to meet students’ diverse needs.
  • Provide four-on-one or small-group supervision during classroom activities.
  • Ensure students remain engaged, focused and safe during classroom activities.
  • Encourage appropriate peer interactions and help students develop social skills.
  • Support cooperative play, group work and turn-taking.
  • Provide support with personal care needs, including toileting, feeding and hygiene assistance.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and other staff members to coordinate support strategies.
  • Share observations and contribute to discussions about student progress and needs.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Education, Inclusive Education or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with children.
  • General understanding of developmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
  • Must live in or around Randburg / the North of Johannesburg.
  • Passion for supporting children in an autism education environment.
  • Willingness to work in a structured classroom setting.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
