- Autism Classroom Assistant / Autism support specialist / Behaviour Therpaists needed at 2 of our 3 centres.
- Positions in both Northwold and Sharonlea
- Rneg per month (based on experience and qualifications) up to R8k per month
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Education, Inclusive Education, or related fields.
- Previous experience working with children.
- General understanding of developmental disorders such as Autism
- Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Live in-or around the North of Johannesburg as this is a junior position and travel costs are high.
Key Responsiblities:
- Assist the teacher in delivering personalized instruction and activities tailored to meet each student’s needs.
- Help implement behavior management plans, providing positive reinforcement, redirection, and support for students during challenging behaviors to maintain a structured and calm learning environment.
- Support students in using communication aids, such as Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), sign language, or AAC devices, to promote effective communication.
- Assist in setting up the classroom environment, organizing materials, and preparing w learning centers to meet students’ diverse needs.
- Provide four-on-one or small-group supervision during classroom activities, ensuring students remain engaged and focused, while ensuring their safety.
- Encourage and facilitate appropriate peer interactions, helping students develop social skills and engage in cooperative play, group work, or turn-taking.
- Provide support for personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, and hygiene assistance, ensuring students’ comfort and well-being in the classroom.
- Work closely with the teacher, therapists, and other staff members to coordinate support strategies, share observations, and contribute to discussions about student progress and needs.
