05 Nov Learning Together: Wits Speech Therapy Students Complete Their Practical Block at Amazing K

There was a little extra excitement at Amazing K as we said goodbye to the Wits University third-year speech therapy students who have completed their practical block with us. To celebrate their time at the school, the students arranged a small party for the children they had been working with—a happy way to bring another wonderful learning experience to a close.

This year’s focus was on autism and complex speech and communication needs. Spending time in our classrooms gave the students an opportunity to get to know the children, learn from their individual ways of communicating and develop practical skills to take into their future work as speech therapists.

Understanding the child behind the communication need

At Amazing K, we value opportunities to help future professionals better understand the children they may one day support.

Practical experience brings a personal dimension to students’ learning. It creates space to observe, listen, ask questions and recognise that each child has their own strengths, preferences and support needs.

It is a privilege to contribute to this process and to help students develop greater understanding, confidence and care when working with autistic children and children with complex communication needs.

A warm farewell to the students

Thank you to the Wits students for the enthusiasm, kindness and willingness to learn that you brought into our classrooms. We have appreciated your time with us and the care you showed the children.

The farewell party was a lovely opportunity to celebrate the relationships built during the practical block and to end our time together with smiles.

We wish you well as you continue your studies and prepare for your future careers. We look forward to welcoming the class of 2027 to Amazing K next year!
